International womens day posterMasks off and Zoom into International Women’s Day this year

On the 8th March, Northern Rivers Women and Children’s Services is offering an array of talks and activities online as a COVID-safe way to gather for International Women’s Day (IWD), in lieu of the Lismore Women’s Festival being cancelled. NORWACS will run International Women’s Day: In-Camera Conversations on 8th March, 11am – 2pm.

Traditionally, IWD has been a time for banners, placards, rallies, getting on the microphone, remembering the struggles and changes women have fought for, pointing out the gender inequities that continue, while maintaining momentum for a better future. “While we still want to do that, we need to do it in a way that protects the health of our community, so this time, it’s online,” said Kelly Banister, General Manager of NORWACS. “Don’t let it stop you donning your purple, green and white gear! Please join us for the webinar, and show your feminist colours!”

“We miss being face to face, but at least you can take off your mask for this year’s IWD and breathe easily!” said Emma Newman, the event coordinator.

The event will include a Welcome to Country, a forum about women in unstable housing, presented by North Coast Community Housing, an update on Affirmative Consent laws by Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre, some short presentations by a range of women, art and dance by women, a feminist quiz and a women-in-business networking session by Sourdough Business Pathways. Plus, the webinar will have subtitles for those who are hearing-impaired. You can register at:
